HAIR THOUGHTS
ART CENTER AHJO, JOENSUU
6.5. – 29.5.2007
TO THE PRESS
Hair thoughts are paintings about physicality. The subject is either the human body or physical courses: how the paint slides, floods or accumulates.
Painting is a slow method, there is time for the fusion of several things during the work. The image becomes ambiguous. My works are always figurative, but the difference between the representation of the seen reality and the representation of the inner world is equivocal. In the best case, the two are combined: a t-shirt resembles a crossroads and vice versa, the chest can be a river of hair, a river a state of mind, the floor an image of the body.
The material used in all the works is egg tempera, the leather-like nature of which, in my opinion, suits the theme well.

I think that the life force might be hidden in the hair. Feelings about physicality are often located in the lower abdomen, and feelings in general somewhere under the sternum. In my work, the human body acts as a frame for the painting event, but I hope that the subject - physicality - can be experienced at least as much in the way of painting and the material as in the presented subject. I left out the heads to make it easier for the spectator to jump into these shoes.
